Riots at the Kanjuruhan Stadium after the Arema FC vs. Persebaya match killed 127 people, Saturday (1/10). The following is the chronology of the tragedy in the police version of Kanjuruhan. Arema vs Persebaya match which started at 20:00 was fierce. However, the hosts were unlucky because they lost 2-3 to Persebaya. East Java Regional Police Chief Inspector General Nico Afinta said that initially the Arema vs Persebaya match went smoothly.
However, after the match ended a number of Arema supporters were disappointed and some of them took to the field to look for players and officials. The security officers then took preventive measures by making diversions so that the supporters did not go down to the field and chase players. The longer the fans' disappointment became stronger and the anger out of control, because it was accompanied by throwing objects onto the field.
It was reported that 127 people died in the tragedy at Kanjuruhan Stadium, Malang Regency, East Java, after the match between Arema FC and Persebaya Surabaya. A total of 34 people died at Kanjuruhan Stadium, Malang Regency; the rest died while receiving help at several local hospitals. The chaos first started when Arena supporters came down to the field after losing against Persebaya. Moments later, police came throwing tear gas making the crowd panic and resulting in chaos, some even got stepped on by other people who were running.
Until now, there are approximately 180 people who are still undergoing treatment at the hospitals. This tragedy occurred after the match between Arema FC against Persebaya Surabaya with the final score of 3-2 at the Kanjuruhan Stadium, Malang Regency, East Java, Saturday night (1/10). The defeat was the first for Arema FC in the last 23 years.
